| The Baton Rouge Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting is a committee affiliated with the Diocese of Baton Rouge serving the Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts Louisiana East of Girl Scouts USA. The Committee is dedicated to promoting “Duty to God” at each level of Scouting. We are affiliated with the National Catholic Committee on Scouting® (NCCS), an advisory to the Boy Scouts of America, National Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts and Camp Fire, and Region 5 of the NCCS (and NFCYM). Each year the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting holds several events to promote Catholic Scouting. These events include a Boy Scout Religious Encounter, Scouter Development, Religious Emblems Counselor Training, and a Youth Religious Emblem and Adult Recognition Ceremony with the Bishop. We are able to accomplish these events, because of the many dedicated leaders that donate their time and energy to providing a quality program. Registration as a Scout Leader is requiredA special note to our current and upcoming counselors, you must be registered with your scout unit and have received Youth Protection training and a background check to sign religious emblems applications. If you supervise both Boy Scout and Girl Scout awards, you must be registered with both units. Forms submitted for the awards ceremony next year will require that the counselors be registered with an active unit. This is to comply with the Diocesan Child Protection requirements. Please check your registration status NOW as the Diocese develops new guidelines for working with all Catholic youth. A letter will come from the Boy Scout or Girl Scout office to your individual parish.
